THE USHERING IN:
On 17th January, 2016, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Silchar completed an eventful march of 50 Golden Years in the service of the Lord and humanity. All the same, the beginning has quite a different story to tell. Holy Cross, had its humble origin in the form of a Khasi medium school established by the Holy Cross Fathers and Brothers of Canadian Mission, who came to Silchar around 1947 and set up residence at Ghaniala Basti, Malugram. This, in turn, was switched over to English medium in 1966 at the behest of the people at large. From here, began the formal journey of Holy Cross towards the pedestal where it stands today, disseminating moral, intellectual and ethical education to the future citizens of the nation. The school, which, at its infancy, saw a humble strength of only 150 students, today boasts of grooming about 2000 young minds for the intellectual and spiritual benefit of the society.

THE NURTURING HANDS:
At its budding stage, Holy Cross School grew ably under the administrative touch of Rev. Brother Gerard CSC, the founder Principal. At that time, necessity was felt to invoke the loving support of the Bethany sisters, whose congregation was founded in 1921 at Mangalore, Karnataka. This framed the base for the arrival of Rev. Mother Sylvine, Sr. Harriete and Sr. Audrey to Silchar on 26 June, 1966. With exemplary courage and charismatic vigour, they nurtured the tender sapling of Holy Cross. It was their abiding faith that illumined every heart, head and hand, and transcended uphill tasks. In 1970, Mother Sylvine took over as Principal of the growing Institution.
BEATING CHALLENGES:
In 1972, the reins of Holy Cross came into the hands of Sr. Evangeline, who was appointed Principal for one year during the temporary leave of Mother Sylvine. Under her, the first batch of HSLC, consisting of 8 students, created a dent by achieving a marvellous success of cent percent. The date 4th March, 1975 was historic for the Institution as it got recognition by the Secondary Education Board of Assam. In 1976, the first batch answered the HSLC exams as Regular candidates.
BLISSFUL BLOSSOMINGS:
Over the years, the school kept growing across length and breadth. New breed of cadres emerged in the form of the successive Principals, who took all challenges head-on and steered the ship of Holy Cross towards glory and motivation. Sr. Ida, Sr. Jyoti, Sr. Rose Celine, Sr. Canisia, Sr. Edleburgh, Sr. Febronia, Sr. Sarita, Sr. Chrisette, all made the welfare and development of the Institution their prime goal, and tended the blooming sapling of Holy Cross with the manure of compassionate labour. With indomitable courage, they worked for the all-round upliftment of the students entrusted to their care. Today, the Institution, with its all-round strides of excellence, is a boon for all the children of this district.
NEW PETALS:
In 2007, another chapter opened in the history of the Institution with its upgradation to the Higher Secondary Level, as the persistent appeal of the people inspired the Institution to scale new heights. At present, the Institution offers the benefit of two year certificate course of HS Arts and Science stream to more than 300 students, and this is, indeed, a matter of privilege and satisfaction for this fledging Institution.
PRESENT LUMINARIES:
On June 9th, 2014, the rudder of the ship of Holy Cross passed into the proficient hands of Present Principal Sr. Caron BS, intuitively an educator, she has been benevolently nurturing the ‘human face of education’, and exploring variant perspectives to brighten the kindling flame of Holy Cross. Besides professional competence, she has laid much emphasis on moral and ethical education so as to frame all-round developed personalities. She has supervised both the teaching and learning process, emphasizing upon the necessity of projects and assignments for the students so as to enable analytical thinking on their part. Present Vice-Principal Sr. Kiran BS has also sagaciously steered the ship of Holy Cross, and her ever-cautious vision has never let the goals to be lost from sight.
ENVISIONING NEWER, VIBRANT HORIZONS :
No miracle can be achieved in the twinkle of an eye, and the journey of Holy Cross from seed to sapling and then into a flowering tree bears ample testimony to this fact. Innumerable noble souls have collaborated with joined hands and minds in the great design of God to shape the lives of His children. May the Holy Cross Family continue to work in this way with exemplary unity and concord even in the times to come, and may the spirit of unstinted service never dim. May we unitedly strive for the maintenance of this culture of excellence and hard work. It is an honour that Holy Cross has made its mark in everyone’s mind and psyche. The school sincerely commits to uphold the spirit of dedication, and to give many more years of glory to the society and the people. May God bless Holy Cross. LONG LIVE HOLY CROSS !!
Our constant and relentless struggle is to go beyond,
May we keep pushing further and further the contours of our imagination.
